This week has been Autism Awareness Week across the country and at COPASS we have been involving ourselves in this event. We held a coffee afternoon for parents on Thursday and raised money for the National Autistic Society. We have also been doing sessions in class to raise the awareness of Autism and some of the difficulties our pupils face as well as celebrating their individual talents.
Furthermore we invited pupils and staff to wear the colours of the Autism Jigsaw, a symbol synonymous with Autism as it reflects the complexity of the autism spectrum. The different colours and shapes represent the diversity of the people and families living with the condition. The brightness of the ribbon signals hope — hope that through increased awareness of autism, and through early intervention and access to appropriate services/supports, people with autism will lead full lives able to interact with the world on the own terms.
Thank you to all those that supported what has been a very positive week.
